چکیده
Land-use conversion and resulting habitat fragmentation can affect the source(s) of primary productivity that fuels food webs alter their structure in ways leads to biodiversity loss. We investigated effects landscape modification on Araguaia River floodplain central Brazil using top predator, indicator species Caiman crocodilus (Crocodilia, Alligatoridae). measured carbon (δ 13 C) nitrogen 15 N) isotope values three tissues with different isotopic incorporation rates evaluate spatial temporal changes caiman niche width hierarchical Bayesian models accounted for use, intraspecific trait variation (sex body size), attributes (composition configuration). also δ C essential amino acids assess if producers are fueling aquatic natural anthropogenic areas. Spatial analysis showed agricultural areas had larger widths, which likely reflects some use terrestrial resources environments dominated by 4 plants. Patterns among were clearly between habitats. Overall, our findings suggest caimans persist heterogeneous landscapes fueled energy sources energy, has implications effectively managing such maximize biodiversity.

Modelling pollination services across agricultural landscapes.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Crop pollination by bees and other animals is an essential ecosystem service. Ensuring the maintenance of the service requires a full understanding of the contributions of landscape elements to pollinator populations and crop pollination. Here, the first quantitative model that predicts pollinator abundance on a landscape is described and tested. METHODS Using information ...
متن کاملDirect and indirect trophic effects of predator depletion on basal trophic levels.
Human population growth and development have heavily degraded coastal ecosystems with cascading impacts across multiple trophic levels. Understanding both the direct and indirect trophic effects of human activities is important for coastal conservation. In New England, recreational overfishing has triggered a regional trophic cascade. Predator depletion releases the herbivorous purple marsh cra...
متن کاملPredator Diet and Trophic Position Modified with Altered Habitat Morphology
Empirical patterns that emerge from an examination of food webs over gradients of environmental variation can help to predict the implications of anthropogenic disturbance on ecosystems. This "dynamic food web approach" is rarely applied at the coastal margin where aquatic and terrestrial systems are coupled and human development activities are often concentrated. We propose a simple model of g...
